• used in Western herbalism as a digestive tonic and bitter (a stomachic) to increase appetite and aid digestion.
• used in Western herbalism to relieve flatulent dyspepsia (a carminative).
• used in Western herbalism to induce sweating (a diaphoretic).
• used in Western herbalism as an expectorant to relieve excessive mucus production.

Herbalist Christopher Hobbs explains that blessed thistle stimulates bile flow and hydrochloric acid production and is specific for anorexia and painful digestion. He suggests the root for “debilitated conditions of the stomach, helping to restore appetite”. Hobbs adds that, “Blessed thistle is highly dependable in its action as a penetrating bitter and a liver and digestive tonic…”

Administration: 2.4-4.8 ml (72-144 drops) 3 X daily, after meals, as needed, in a mouthful of water.

Contraindications and Cautions:
Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are breastfeeding or if you have a hypersensitivity to plants of the Asteraceae/Compositae/Daisy family.

A NOTE ON TINCTURES
