CascaraLax™ is a natural herbal tonic that helps relieve the intestines in conditions of chronic constipation. Each of the eight carefully chosen herbs in this formula is recognized for its gastrointestinal properties. Gentle and non-addictive, CascaraLax™ acts as an excellent tonic laxative.
The herbal ingredients in CascaraLax™ provide the digestive, carminative, stomachic, and antispasmodic properties that make this an effective remedy for constipation and the gastrointestinal complaints associated with constipation. As with all our combinations, the ingredients work together in a harmony, each adding its complementary strength to the formula as a whole. With its unique conjunction of stimulatory and laxative qualities, cascara exemplifies the subtle therapeutic dynamics of CascaraLax™. This is a formula that is more than just a laxative. Rather it strives to invigorate and strengthen the systemic wellbeing of the gastrointestinal tract by bringing all the relevant physiological factors into play.
Combinations to consider: CascaraLax™ may be used effectively in conjunction with St. Francis Herb Farm®’s dry herbal formula BulkLax™. While BulkLax™ brushes out and cleanses the intestines, CascaraLax™ tones the intestinal wall and stimulates bile production. In this way it relieves constipation and promotes the overall functional health of this important body system.
Administration: 10-35 drops (0.3-1.2 ml) 3X daily in a little water, on an empty stomach. Gradually taper dose in 5-10 drop increments as bowel movements become regular (daily). May be continued no longer than 30 days at full dosage and no more than 90 days at reduced dosage (5 drops or less 3X daily).
Contra-indications and Cautions:
Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have a medical condition or if you are taking prescription medications. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist after more than 10 days use or if you have experienced a recent uncharacteristic change in bowel habits. Do not take this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Not for use in children, except as recommended by a health care practitioner. Do not use if you are allergic to plants of the Umbelliferae or Asteraceae family. Reduce dosage or discontinue use if you experience a hypersensitivity reaction. Reduce dosage or discontinue use in the event of diarrhoea or watery stools.

A NOTE ON TINCTURES
Tinctures are more readily absorbed by the body and have a high degree of bio-availability. As well, they have a long shelf life.
Sometimes people ask us why tinctures are alcohol-based. There are very good reasons. Alcohol is critically important in the extraction of an herb's medicinal ingredients. It also helps to stabilize and preserve them. Alcohol is the ideal carrier substance, conveying the therapeutic goodness of the herb to the body. In itself, too, science has proven that alcohol enhances the immune system and its defences.
As for the amount of alcohol taken in an average dose of tincture, you'll be surprised to learn that it's about the same as what you'd find in an overly ripe banana!
